Always Nintendo and Playstation when it comes to consoles.

I hate to be that guy, but I agree wholeheartedly.

Nintendo - even at their absolute worst (WiiU, Gamecube) - Still manage to put out some true gems. I own a WiiU and I don't regret it, the dozen games I own on that console (Not including Virtual Console) are among my favorites of the past five years of gaming. Likewise, the Gamecube has some of my all-time favourite games like Smash Bros Melee and Wind Waker! I decided almost two decades ago that I would always buy Nintendo consoles and even when they let everyone else down they haven't let me down. I like what they offer, the games they make are often great or masterpieces, and even their mid-range stuff I find fun and nostalgic. The only way I'll give up on Nintendo is if they go 100% mobile Phones.

Sony is four consoles into their legacy and all of them have been great to outstanding. the PS1 was the first console to break 100 million units sold, has some of my all-time favorite games and a TONNE of great third party stuff, Ps2 is the best selling console of all time, Ps3 took a while to get going but ended up great, and PS4 is one of my all-time favorite consoles. One thing I love about Sony is that they are very good at blending third party multiplatform games with a smattering of high quality and varied first party exclusives. Sure, their exclusives aren't on the same level as Nintendo but they're only a step or two behind and they also have that third-party support. And even when they fail, they just keep truckin' and end up doing well in the end (PS3).

Microsoft hasn't done anything to foster loyalty in me. Their exclusives are fine (Or at least they used to be) but aren't for me (Shooters and racers are bland and boring to me; I don't play killzone or Gran Turismo on my Playstation consoles so why would I Care about slightly better versions of the same thing?). They pioneered bad business practices like paid online and microtransactions in AAA titles, they tried to screw us all over with DRM, pushed the Kinect as mandatory, and never carry through. Each console generation has 2-3 years of great games then falls off into nothing. They've released 3 consoles and 2 of them were failures (Original Xbox sold 24.6 million, the Xbox One has sold only 43 million.) Sure, the Xbox One has another year and a half in it and isn't a huge failure but is far and away going to be the least successful of Gen 8 and the Xbox 360 - their most successful console - sold fewer than its competition.

And the last three years of Xbox has been a ghost town. They basically don't have any exclusives and the few they do have underperform or just aren't good (in some cases, are outright bad), and the few exclusives that console DOES have are also on PC. They completely dropped the ball with Rare, putting them almost as low as EA in terms of their handling of smaller devs in terms of just how much failure they managed to wring out of those under their thumb, and overall I just don't like them.

I will probably buy an Xbox when the next generation comes out because I'm an idiot and I like the shiny new thing, but I never played my original Xbox, I rarely played my Xbox 360, and I've literally spent more time managing the data on my Xbox One than playing games on it. the only Xbox 'exclusives' I've enjoyed at all this gen are Ori and the Blind Forest and Cuphead, both of which are on PC and my computer can handle it. Sunset Overdrive was....alright I guess but underwhelming.

I spent more time on my Nintendo Switch in the month of March 2017 than I have in almost 5 years of owning an Xbox One. It really should be three strikes and it's out.

Original Xbox - clunky, bad controller, exclusives are almost all racing or FPS games with a few Western RPGs which I wasn't a fan of back then
Xbox 360 - Red Ring of Death, having to buy batteries for the controller, an absolutely lax last 2-3 years of its console life
Xbox One - Attempted DRM and forced Kinect, weaker than its direct competition in virtually every way, terrible exclusives throughout...

Point is, it's a good CONSOLE with a terrible company behind it. (I don't hate microsoft, but their game division is shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit; on the flipside, Sony sucks but their gaming division is on-point)
