I don't think Kinect was a massive system seller.  I agree with Shadow1980 that it had more to do with the new model and price cut.  Also getting Minecraft first didn't hurt either although that came a little later.

Kinect was a disappointment.  Although even Microsoft believed their own hype for a while which is why it was bundled with the XB1.  I think they've learned their lesson by now.

There wasnt a price cut with the S model though and Minecract didnt come to 360 until May 2012 so that doesnt explain 2011 sales at all.

Kinect craze had died down significantly by 2013/2014 but there is really no denying it was huge for the first 2 years.

They cut the price in 2009 and then upgraded all of the models to S in 2010.  It's the combination of the two.  The S Model was a good value: low price and higher quality.  That was what the market was looking for.  The redesign may have even helped shake the stigma of the RROD.

Kinect was never a craze.  Kinect was not the Wii.  Wii Sports was a craze.  Kinect?  nope.
