So I'm a complete DINK (Dual Income, No Kid) and it's pretty great. My brother has two kids and my sister has five, it's a struggle for both of them. It's pretty amazing knowing we have a savings account and can handle emergencies or go on vacations on a whim. My wife and I are both pretty thankful for that and have no plans to have children even though we've been together for more than 15 years. My brother and sister both have all sorts of worries and a long weekend is a rarity for them. My sister has her fist kid turn 18 this year and another 16 so now she has to worry about college *and* cars. I imagine not having kids has prevented A LOT of stress.

That all said, kids are a nice cure for Wednesday boredom. The Wife and I love each other and have a good time, but at least kids keep things interesting?

We've never had a pet together (I grew up on a farm with a silly amount of dogs and cats), that will change in about a month. The Wife will have to get use to having _at least_ a cat so that should be fun and _almost_ like a kid.

Does that make me a DIK?

But on another note, I think many people are happier with kids than they would be without them, even given the financial struggle that it might induce. Oddly enough for me, having a kid is what gave me the motivation to get my shit together, and I'm perhaps in a better financial situation with my kid than I would be without.
