The black screen issue has happened to me. Being ONLINE and trying to run a game will lead to it shorting out because it's going to establish communications with XBL (I'm thinking telemetry. MS loves their telemetry), so it must be offline and the game must be set up to work offline.
Basically, it can if configured correctly.
