Is Metroid a system mover? |
I know it isn't traditionally a system mover, but I will say that it was Metroid Prime that brought me back to the Nintendo fold. I skipped the 64 generation and moved over to Sony for the PS1 and the PS2 era. Metroid Prime alone was enough for me to buy a Gamecube even if I didn't (at the time) like the controller or even the look of the system. And if you don't think fans are excited about Prime 4, just take a look at the reaction videos of its reveal...for a title card. A Metroid on the same level as Breath of the Wild would absolutely move units and could prove to break the under performing history of this beloved series. Of course, now that we're in some sort of development hell or resurrection it will be tough to see the impact it will have on Switch sales or the Switch successor's sales. Either way, I don't think they would lock this title behind a new generation.
