PSP 2000/3000/Go didn't need a cewl dock, just a cable to connect them to a TV.
And a second PSP was the second controller for multiplayer games... even with an additional display... how cewl is that? 
You could also combine Vitas + PS TVs for cewl Multiplayer sessions:
