Yes and no. While I do agree it would have been nice to see more new stages in the game, I also think that the volume, variety, and quality of the 103 (300 if you go by layouts AND locales) should keep just about everyone happy. it's the same reason I excused the lack of level creator toolkit: I'd rather have 103 amazing stages that are all in some way unique to one another and updates with better graphics and details than half of that and a level creator that just results in spike floors and lava traps. I still do hope we get a level creator as free (or paid, I'm okay with that) DLC down the line, but as it stands I'm content.

What I'm not quite content with is the replacement of trophies with spirits. Trophies didn't just give you gorgeous 3D models of characters and items from various games, they also gave you backstory on what each trophy was based on. Spirits don't give you any backstory at all, they're just there.

So you'd rather the devs wasted time creating pretty looking things that don't impact the gameplay than create a new game feature that's well-integrated into singleplayer and multiplayer? Why would you rather they just repeat the same thing over and over again instead of doing something new?

I've always been a gameplay first kinda woman, and I'd rather have spirits. If sales are anything to go by, I'm not alone. I mean, I'm not attempting to devalue your opinion on the matter, but from my perspective it sounds like you're putting visuals/story/lore ahead of gameplay in a fighting game and I just can't get behind that.

Would it have been nice to have them? Sure it would. but the devs had to pick and chose what to focus their efforts on given the factors such as the space and time requirements and felt that trophies weren't a valuable use of their time or the space on the cart. They even said it would have been too much work, and if you wanted it then it would have cost us characters, stages, spirits, or other features of the game. I know you said you'd have preferred trophies to spirits, but from a gameplay perspective that doesn't seem fair to me. As it stands, they went for all the characters and almost all the stages (the two most important things in smash, I feel), as well as a pair of singleplayer 'campaigns' in World of Light and the 74 unique classic modes as well as the spirits board and various other stuff that basically carved away the chaff.

I'd love if literally everyone was pleased and sure I'd have loved to have trophies as well, I just prefer what they did by focusing on the gameplay. virtually every decision in the game was made to focus on that, and I love that.
