Isn't that the thing, though? Lack of support meant lower sales, which meant lower interest for the console, and it enters a vicious cycle. And while everyone is guilty of that (Nintendo included, they did some weird stuff with their 3rd party relations back then) the EA-Nintendo debacle was the most public case of clash, with the Origins boycott and the "unprecedented partnership" going so sour it became a meme, not helped by the anemic support they got from EA. EA were not only the first ones in jumping the ship, they threw a match to the wrech while they did so.
