There is no point to mention that because 3DS start selling great moment got huge price cut, and no, 3DS wouldn't be sold extremely well without price cut, $250 for handheld was too much in any case.

Didn't the price cut coincide with a huge game release followed by another big game soon after?

Price cut was in August, big games started releasing in Nov/Dec.

Since Nintendo still failed to meet their fiscal year forecast, yes. Yes, it needed to be that big.

The 3DS exclusivity of Monster Hunter played a much bigger role in Vita's failure than 3DS's success. For the 3DS it would have hardly made a difference if it didn't have Monster Hunter.

But is the fiscal target the only thing that matters? I don't think it is.

Also suggesting MH which brought a different audience to the platform in their millions wasn't doing much is crazy.

Its not only thing that matters, but matters when they planing year with price cut, revisions and releases. In short yes, they need huge 3DS price cut and even that want enough to meat their FY target. You dont have reason to suggest that big 3DS price wasn't needed.
