You can't compare them like that, because the amount of time on th emarket is completely different.
First year
PS2: 12 months Japan, 4 months US, 3 months Others
PS3: 12 months Japan, 12 months US, 8 months Others
Please check PS2 vs PS3 for every region seperately and you'll get the idea.
