The concept of generations was introduced because of the "16-bit generation"
It had little to do with the timeframe since the SMD overlapped more with the NES than the SNES; and much more to do with the fact that it was A) the next system after the 8-bit console, and B) a 16-bit console

No one thought of generations prior to the NES until Wikipedia decided two arbitrary groupings of consoles came earlier. The bullshit generations, in other words... That article is dumb, and it's weird that people talking about it like it is the gospel truth - or scientific truth, if we want to be PC here! =D

No one equates Pokemon and Monster Hunter Generations. And there's no reason to say PS4 is Sony's 8th generation console. PS4 is clearly Sony's 4th gen console, it even says on the console itself. Switch is Nintendo's 7th generation home console, but it's useless to say it is the same generation as the PS4, and even more useless to say it is a generation ahead of PS4; Sony and Nintendo really only had one console similar to the other, and that was the PS2 and the Junior (Gamecube), otherwise they've been on two separate tracks.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
