This thread is very quiet this week, everyone must be over in the era one!

So amazon Japan. Smash and switch are king but ps4 is right up there at #5 and DQB2 at 7. I wonder will both have a decent week 51. I hope so.

That thread is not a great place for anything PlayStation and I think you are long enough on this site to know that convo here die after 1-2 days.

Just reading thru it. Someone even posted that it was wrong to released it to PS4 as if  every game released to Switch are instant success. Blaming the platform and not the publisher who sent it to die. DQ was actually lucky to have sold about the same  with DQ IX.

Well I don't have an era account, but there is a lot of interesting discussions going on in their thread. Like last night when they talked how Monster Hunter become one of the best selling games in the west this year, while Dragon Quest 11 flopped in the west. Admittedly wish I did had one just so I can throw my two cents in that topic since I came to the realization that Dragon Quest in the west is pretty similar to Star Wars in China right now.

Also, Dragon Quest XI should've gone with a simultaneous worldwide release. It did wonders for Monster Hunter World.

By the time DQ XI released in the West, the hype was gone and everyone interested had already seen the whole game on youtube/twitch/etc.

It's all about timing. Persona 5 did great on a non busy week. Nier as well. Although I agree it's nice to have Japanese games release simultaneously outside Japan.

While the world wide release did help Monster Hunter, I am not sure if it would of done the same for Dragon's Quest. Yakuza 0 took almost 2 years to release in the west and through good wood of mouth, it manage to be the breakout title in the west for the series.

Dragon's Quest problem in the west might have with the lack of nostalgia for the brand that Japan has and of course Square's lack of marketing. Since I don't think it really has much to do with the actual games themselves since Persona 5 and Octopath Traveler prove that turn base JRPG's not named Pokemon can sell a million copies outside of Japan and the character is done by the most famous Manga artist of all time.

I think the real problem is they release to close to Spider-Man.  Some people underestimate the PS fans hype. PS4 fans are talking about Spider-Man and all their focus is with it. If DQXI was release on a non busy release date. DQ XI could have done better. SE got it right with NIER and Atlus got it right with P5. Release it when you are not competing with other games especially big games. Same thing happened with Hitman and Valkyria chronicles. The reason Sony keeps delaying Days Gone.

Marketing aswell, it's like SE send it to die.
