It was obvious that at some point there would be discless console, people were expecting it mid-gen next gen, but MS will start earlier.

Considering it will be cheaper, lighter and a good 30-50% of retail games are bought digitally I can see this going well even if not increasing the userbase of MS but setting the space for next gen they starting with at least regular console, streaming console/discless console and with good price points getting a good start.

@SuperTurbo: console makers get a cut on all games sold new be it digital or physical (and from a post above they get more on digital). So it is also their interest to reduce second hand market... sure that can also reduce gaming market as a whole as some people will stop playing games if they can't buy used, while others won't buy as much new games if they can't sell the used. But on their strategy they believe they will profit more this way.
