Are you actually fucking kidding me. I was a Fox main for two years, I know about the character and I know he barely received any changes at all - the only notable one was the jab 2 nerf, which essentially removed his jab 1-2 infinite (though they did buff the rapid jabs combo to make up for that). That was a big nerf, as the jab 1-2 was ridiculously powerful and was Fox's saving grace against many other top tiers. The only proper buff he received over the course of the game was to his reflector, which was a shit move before and is still a shit move now.

You're not getting your misinformation over to me. Fox is insanely good in Smash 4 and has always been. The only reason people said he was crap was because they were used to Brawl Fox stuff and obviously Smash 4 Fox wasn't able to do Brawl Fox stuff, just like how Ultimate Fox can't do Smash 4 Fox stuff and now we're seeing the whole story again with people saying he's bad. If I'm being totally honest here I really don't think he'll be as great in Ultimate, probably not top 10, but to think he won't be viable is borderline crazy.

Bowser was one of the most heavily buffed characters over the span of Smash 4's lifetime. The only proper nerf he ever got from the vanilla version was his Side B suicide killing him before the opponent, which isn't too relevant to the meta to begin with. That aside, he had buffs everywhere, from better frame data, to better hitboxes, to being able to grab the ledge from behind, to gaining more damage output, and of course the main one being his up throw which became possibly the strongest combo throw in the whole game. To say he was better before these buffs is objectively wrong. In other words, when people thought he was possibly top 5, they were objectively wrong. Was it relevant to the meta back then? Maybe, for a little while, but it didn't take long for people to realize he was trash and learn to deal with him, and suddenly he plummeted back down to low tier until the buffs came. He was never a great character in 1.0.0, people were just wrong - it's as simple as that.

Same applies to everything else I've said. Early impressions don't define the metagame because they're based on shallow knowledge of the game and its characters - usually they'll consider a certain character mid or low tier if it had previously good options nerfed, or if they don't know anyone playing said character. None of it is relevant, at least not for longer than a month at best.

You didn't debunk what I said and essentially admitted my point, he was crap and the fact he relied on one move as a saving grace by your own words backs this also a character doesn't need to be directly targeted by balance changes to improve as seen in other games other characters can get hit with changes that improve another character's position in the game an example of this was Viper in USFIV she was targeted in a number of patches at that point but her situation changed consistently with each patch because of changes made to others and the game.

Early impressions still give important information even if just for a month that's still a month when that information is defining the meta so as it stands they still have relevance.
