The picture quality is great, however I see no evidence of HDR so far. Granted the beginning is all monochrome snow landscapes with overcast or dark skies. While lights are naturally only from lanterns and fires. And since it's not dark out yet, any expanded detail in the darker ranges is lost.
The setup doesn't seem to be much more than a brightness slider. Actually in game it suggests 300 for OLED and 100 for LCD. I set it to 200 as for day time use it was kinda hard to make out the darker details in the single setup image. There does not seem to be a calibration option for the max brightness like in GT Sport. There it uses a grid pattern and you simply increase a slider until the whole sample image is white, to determine the max capable brightness of your tv.
So no clue yet what HDR adds to the picture. It should look better at night time anyway and once the game opens up and gets a bit more colorful with sunny skies it should be more noticeable.
The game is highly customizeable and I have been switching a lot between first person, third person and cinematic mode. View point change is a simple click of the track pad. I also set the fov to max for first person mode and tweaked how the camera behaves. It's like shooting your own movie with all the different camera angles.
