FInal Fantasy VIII
It used to a close call between FFVII, FFVIII, FFXI and FFXII, with FFVIII seeming to just edge out the others, but as time goes on it becomes more clear that FFVIII is not only my favourite FF game, but maybe my favourite game of all time. I really like the characters, the story, the world and the gameplay. I love the battle system, the junction system and Triple Triad is probably my favourite mini game ever, I even have some real Triple Triad cards and have played a few games in real life. I also got a PocketStation just for this game. The music is possibly the best in the series (though most of the games have amazing soundtracks). On an old crt those pre-rendered backgrounds are incredible (true for all three PS1 FF games, though FFIX was a touch more advanced and the pinnacle of pre rendered FF games). My one gripe is that almost the whole game gets closed off on disc 4, if it had a NG+ or just the whole game on the last disc, it'd be perfect. I almost want a remake, but I'm worried that they'd change the game too much. It's a shame it's not going to be on the Switch, but I don't really like the port of FFIX they have on there so I'd probably just stick with my Vita and the original game.
I like the whole series though. If I were to list them, it'd be
1. FFVIII
These next three might shift around a bit but they always occupy places 2-4
2. FFXII
3. FFXI
4. FFVII
Place 5 is FFX without a doubt
5. FFX
These three may shift places among each other, they're all very close
6. FFVI
7. FFV
8. FFIX
FFXV feels a bit new to place properly, but at the moment these three are fixed here.
9. FFII
10. FFXV
11. FFIII
These two are basically tied.
12. FFIV
13. FFXIII
The first is the worst, but still a good game.
14. FF
I haven't played more than a few hours of FFXIV so I can't place that anywhere.
