The funny thing is all this talk is happening towards the back end of the PS4's life , it's not like the PS4 is a year or two into it's life and people are making PS1 an hot issue , Sony have continued along the same path that gave us the games that made it the leading console, then at the back end we get calls of arrogance when they stay on that path, the talk we hear today about Sony only picked up volume when fuel added by the opposition who have a vested interest resulted in a media pile on that morphed what was a legitimate debate into a case of tall poppy syndrome.to the point where now it seems that any want not being executed by Sony is quickly turned to them being arrogant, rather than acknowledging that there are two sides to a story and their reasons may have a validity to them but unless we look we won't know. |
So much this
People in this thread are ignoring the practical reasoning behind why the PS4 isn't BC with older gen games.
-Hardward Differenciation such as the PS3's Cell Architecture
-Licensing, maybe the most important road block
-The requirement that they meet certain industry standards in resolution and features like Trophy Support.
-And Yes, Sony has also created a potentially profitable alternative that future proofs Backwards compatibility via Streaming.
Playstation has also existed for a whole generation longer than xbox, and with a much bigger/older base of games to pull from for BC. 360 was just one generation ago, and the xbox architecture isn't completely adjacent to XB1's. I'm just saying the ability to do BC is leagues easier for Xbox than it is for Playstation.
This is literally the first Playstation console to not have standard BC, just as the Switch is also for Nintendo. I doubt it is arrogance on either party, but practical change because of industry changes.
