I thought it was pretty awesome. I didn’t see either Avatar while it was on the air, though. A buddy made me watch it after I explained in great detail why I was a fan of Fullmetal Alchemist (namely its hard magic system and consistent batch of enemies).

Katarra was my favourite character; I enjoyed watching the process of a noob achieve mastery over a long period of time, and her hair-loop-things was some fantastic character design.

Loved Azula, did not like Zuko. He crossed the Moral Event Horizon during multiple redemption opportunities, so I regard him as nothing but an opportunistic usurper, whose allegiances tended to be out of immediate convenience. Screw that guy.

I also liked Korea, but S2 was a mess. Still not sure how I feel about the structure of each season compared to Airbender, but I think they managed it pretty well.

As for the movie...well...like Beloved Leader, it worked real hard to earn its criticism. I rank it below The Room, because at least that movie was, on occasion, accidentally entertaining.

But a live action Netflix series helmed by the show’s creators? I AM SO IN.
