Hey Brian, there hasn't been a rule enacted that makes it illegal for you to cover slot routes coming across the middle. In fact, there hasn't been a rule against covering receivers at all. Maybe consider trying something like that in the second half.

Speaking of rules, I don't like the new roughing the passer rule. Any defender who tackles a QB from the front and is a split second late, meaning the QB manages to throw the ball away, will get punished because he can't avoid landing on the QB when both go to the ground. Did nobody at the NFL headquarters consider the laws of physics?

You're not alone there. I believe the main thrust of it is that the defender can't land on the quarterback, but, I mean, same effect really.
