I would say their current online plan is a lot similar to how their approach with various Wii U initiatives.
But in terms of games, unless you only buy Nintendo games or big name third party multi platform games that haven't been on Nintendo platforms since the GC, the idea that there isn't anything to play in the system is absurd. Now so far it is mainly a JRPG and side scroller machine but you have plenty of games in different genres to choose from.
