Exactly. Nintendo was demolished with their last attempt at a dedicated home console, so they (correctly) decided to instead just throw a HDMI port on their portable and allow them to be plugged into a TV. Sony was demolished with their last attempt at a portable console, so they (correctly) decided to surrender that market to Nintendo and mobile phones/tablets.

Both Nintendo and Sony have shed themselves of their weaker hardware and have decided to focus entirely on their strengths. It's no surprise that both are doing extremely well relative to their recent past now that they both don't have Vita/Wii U successors weighing them down.

Eh, Switch is much more than just handheld with HDMI port, it's total practically handheld and home console in one out of box, and you even have two different mods for games playing in handheld and home console mode. Also Nintendo didnt decaide just throw HDMI port on their portable, their efectfivly marged their handheld and home console divisions in to one and for first time they are going with just one platform instead two totally different platforms, and reason for that is that they couldnt effectively support any more two different platforms in same time.

Well if you want games up to the current AAA standard set by xbox and ps4 especially pro and x then the switch isn't that type of home console. The fact it had to be portable severely hampered the power they could aim for. This tells me they valued the portability more.

No shame in that because as a handheld its nice and powerful and imo that's its primary market and the market most of its Ltd sales will come from.
