I don't really keep up with Sony PR, but I don't see how this makes them look good at all to anyone but their most devoted fanbase.
I know there was a history that many people used to use the word arrogant to describe Sony in the past and that's just what I'd use here.
I feel like outright saying you won't allow crossplay out of greed would be taken better than this.
