It's the, "If you don't watch it, you're a sexist" thing the Director of Ghostbusters 2016 said, or "Don't like it, don't buy it" attitude the EA guy said that rub me the wrong way and make me boycott. Don't try to guilt me into spending my money. I'm a customer, so I have no obligation to get something if I don't want to.

Excellently said. That's the sad thing about a lot of these (Movies, Games, Anime) Anti-SJW controversies, the motive for them is almost always stupid as fuck, but the way the creators handle is usually even worse. And really, these controversies just re-affirm the power is in the consumers hands, which is more important than ever.

Pretty much. I'm all for creative freedom, even if it's something I disagree with. That's the entire point of creative medium like books, film and video games. If you say, "Well, we know some people might not like it, but this is the story we wanted to tell," you won't get any complaints from me. I might even give it a chance if the reviews suggest it's good. If you reply with antagonistic stuff like, "You must be a bigot if you don't like it," and lump all people who question you into some rude generalization, then my money can be spent somewhere else, no matter how good that product might be.
