I think the main problem with this year is there hasn't been a single AAA game released. Well I guess perhaps Fortnite counts? Does it? At least it is really popular, don't know if it counts as AAA. Nintendo themselves have released a few AA new games and ports, but not a single major game. Considering the Pokemon this year is a spin off of Pokemon Go I wouldn't consider that AAA either. So basically Nintendo, with all of their resources essentially now being able to focus on a single system for the first time, are somehow going the whole first 11 months of the year without releasing a single AAA game, and then just releasing one in December. In terms of indies, and second tier first party and third games and old ports the Switch's year has been alright, but 14 months between a single AAA first party game releasing (SMO to Smash) when they don't even have to split there support in half between focusing on two systems, is just outrageous.

The only thing that would make this make sense is if they focused most of their resources on the big 2017 games and then need two years to get the next round of big games going and they are gonna blow us away in 2019 with many major first party titles again. If you're just looking for big title highlights to rank a year's worth of software by, Switch has almost nothing for the whole year outside of Smash, at least in terms of first party stuff. I'm starting to question their priorities though that they would go 14 months between AAA releases, not that AAA releases are all that counts, cuz they only have so many properties that can be classified as such, but still that is a ridiculously long draught especially when considering they really only have a single system to focus on now.
