They were open to it being on their platform. Apparently Nintendo (a family-oriented image) and Microsoft (don't really care about Japan-focused games) were not. This isn't a case where Yakuza needed funding and Sony swooped in to help a like Bayonetta 2. Sony was just open to the game series itself and didn't turn it away.
