The one thing I hated about the solid eye was the battery. You give me camo that can change colors, but the solid eye runs out of battery in about ten minuets? Then not using it or 30 seconds recharges the battery?

I can understand trying to limit the players use of the solid eye so it doesn't become a crutch, but the battery was more of a nuisance than an incentive to do rely on different techniques. It sorta reminded me of the doom 3 flashlight, but not as dumb.

Spoiler Alert:

If you use the Mk II/Mk III to wander around the Nomad during the briefings, you'll not only find a camera with which to take photos during your missions, but also a battery for the Solid Eye to extend its charge. But the battery is really just an additional play mechanic that the player must stay aware of like Snake's health and psyche meters.

Of course once the player is good enough, they won't even need the Solid Eye.

The game has volumes of features and equipment built in to assist the player during the game, but the more experienced the player, the less they'll rely upon any of their gear.

At least the octocamo doesn't run out of power, which is more than can be said about the Nanosuit in Crysis. But in all fairness, the ridiculously low power of the suit was designed in the interest of balance to keep the game challenging.
