I think it's going to take some major investment from one of the hardware manufacturers in the software space. I had hoped that Sony wood give us some big-budget, AAA, virtual reality Games. The fact that they have not done so is worrisome. It means to me that they don't have faith in their ability to move headsets even with great games.

The fact that Microsoft was touting Scorpio as a VR capable machine, but then dropped that marketing, also worries me. It tells me that Microsoft, with their massive research and forecasting budgets, shows that they know VR just isn't ready for primetime.

I think it's pretty obvious that it's going to take amazing games to push sales of the hardware. But, no third-party developer can reasonably justify investing the many millions of dollars it takes to make a triple A game when the potential sales base is so low. It is going to have to be a first party saying, and the fact that Sony hasn't done it says a lot to me.
