Until recently I think I would have said retro was anything before the PS1, Saturn, N64 but I've changed my mind. Born in 82 so that generation kicked off in highschool for me but now that feels so long ago and even though there was a shift in gaming there, well that happened in previous generations too and has happened in later ones too. It feels suitably old and significantly removed from modern games that I accept the 5th gen as retro now. I'm even verging on accepting the 6th gen when I look back at my Dreamcast and early PS2 games, that stuff was almost 20 years ago, however I think because that generation lasted at least into 2007, in my opinion, that it seems to new for me to say it is retro. I don't mind people calling it retro though.
I also spend most of my gaming time with 6th gen or lower games so PS2 games are obviously going to feel more modern when I still spend a lot of time playing them. There's no way I could call 7th gen retro though.
