I don't think motion controls would've sold the Wii out of the gate had they not been so brilliantly and accessibly demonstrated by Wii Sports. It was the game that made motion controls appealing to the blue ocean in the first place by showing how fun they could be.

Which is why I listed a number of other factors including the low price one thing that was clearly a factor for the BO was cost it's one reason many of them are on mobile gaming now days, Wii was ultra affordable to the point you could buy one on impulse with out much issue to a person's finance and this was during the recession as well. WS was a good demonstration of the tech but then Twilight Princess had a massive hand in launching the platform (500k in one day for it) and because you'd have a copy of WS no matter what you bought Wii for everyone got to try the game, it can be argued TP was actually the better and key launch game for the platform and WS came into action afterwards.
