By making profits back in the long run. Easiest way to see this: if they lose 1.5 billion this year (net) but earn 250 million (net) over the course of the next 4 years after, then they lose 1.25 billion total.

 Oh, I went ahead and thought that Sony/M$ would keep losing money and Nintendo would continue to earn profit, my bad.
