Because they know there's a demand and userbase almost as large on the Switch/3DS

There is no 3DS in this debate. It's Switch vs PS4/X1. How can the 20m Switch owners, who've proven multiple times that they care about 1st party games and little about the rest, be a better potential than the 120m PS4/X1 audience which buys millions of 3rd party games every month?

Even if the next Monster Hunter isn't released on 3DS, the userbase that plays Monster Hunter on that system will migrate to Switch to play the new Monster Hunter, so that's a relevant point. Considering Xenoblade 2 has record sales, and many other Japanese games are making out big on Switch, not sure why Capcom would want to miss out just to show you favouritism. You'll probably get a Monster Hunter World Ultimate, and by then PS4 and Xbone will be nearing the end of their cycle. Just sit back and enjoy what you have.
