Weird, because I looked at the poster and thought "Dope, I loved that book!" and then immediately swore the movie off after watching the trailer. It may not have been very good, either, but the very blatant identity politics they injected into one of my favorite books chased me away long before the reviews did.

Again it bombed because it was bad, not because the identity politics they injected into it.  Blaming a movie bombed because of SJW or injection of identity politics is almost Alex Jones level of insanity.  Also the movie was directed by a African American female so if the cast would have been completely white like in the book that actually would have been weird.

I would call it being accurate to the source material. Just like Blade or Spawn shouldn't be turned white. The sad thing is if that were ever done in today's climate, someone would be shunned for life. Maybe even physically harmed. Change a white character black, though, and you're racist if you have a problem with it.

And adding SJW messages into a film makes it bad. So, you can't really say that it had nothing to do with its failure.
