People associate it with Liberalism (modern, not classic Liberalism) because that is how many SJWs would classify themselves.  People on the Left are also more likely to sympathize with their objectives and cause. 

I just choose to call SJW's Leftists at this point. Sure there are some crazy right wingers, but their whole thing starts with their rights while the Leftist focuses on themselves. To summarize, all Leftists are Liberals, but not all Liberals are Leftists. If you're a classical/moderate, I would love to have a conversation to express differences in views, but the stuff in Star Wars is just some sort of things that I cant find a common ground with.
