Well I can't speak for others but I know if there's one thing that has turned me off about E3 is when someone is talking to me about a video game or video games. My time is very valuable to me, just show me the damn trailer with some gameplay, few minutes in length, and I'll be on my way. Don't waste my time! I'd much rather just look at a store shelf or digital storefront, look at the games, look up gameplay, and go from there on my own. Most of my game purchases went down that way. No need for a 30-minute commercial with someone running their mouth. /rant |
With the exception of Smash, that's pretty much what Nintendo did with their show and has been doing for the last few years. Square-Enix did the same thing. With Smash in particular, some of the game's features needed an actual explanation. You can't really get far more streamlined than that. The type of presentation that EA, Ubisoft, Sony and Microsoft had was more in line with how E3 was presented in the past. They were 90 minute shows with people talking in between or doing whatever. In fact, E3 in the past used to be far worse because the company with the most sales would have pie charts and sales statistics that they would spend a good 15 minutes talking about. Sony did this during the PS2 era while Nintendo did this during the Wii era. So if anything, E3 is arguably more tolerable than it was in the past. It's also less relevant too, but that's another issue.
