The base Xbox one will still likely be able to play next-gen games, but in a significantly reduced manner.
It happened with the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

And it happened in the console generation prior to that.

That depends, are you looking at it in the latest hardware aspect? Because like i mentioned before, not all PC gamers run games on the latest hardware, meaning alot of games still come out optimised for low end PCs.

If the X goes the PC gen route than no one will be expecting the X to run the games identical to next gen systems, that also depends how far ahead next gen consoles will be in power.. remembering there most likely going to aim for the sweet spot in terms of price so how much are they going to invest into the power?

Look at the Switch compared to a X1 and PS4, it runs there games and its probably alot harder to do considering the Switch is also a different machine. We are referring to the Next Xbox which will most likely use DX, UWP, X86 and keeping it close to PCs so porting will most likely be even easier than the current ports to Switch.

The X is already designed ahead of its time and we can assume cutting its visuals in the resolution from 4k to 1080p already boosts the preformance bracket by the X immensely.

The CPU is an interesting topic but will wait and see i guess. Like I said not all PC gamers are running the latest Intel or AMD CPUs. I think Sea of Thieves was designed to run on a i3 CPU..

Anyway its all speculation and rumours. Either way they go it will be interesting.
