I suspect many a company only announces as early as they do to beat the leaks. Much better to have a Rage 2 trailer and announcement than a black logo box on walmart. Kills a bit of the hype.
Now a company like Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo when launching a new console will want to showcase some future to make sure people buy right away, but once the system takes off, there is no need to announce 3 years into future. They will want 3rd party devs to announce super early, cause why not. But no company 3rd party or 1st wants to announce stuff years in advance. Too much a headache. You have fans, journalists constantly asking about it, or wanting updates. People get upset if there are delays. Ect. It's always better to wait.
