In DOA games you tend to move around the level more than other fighters. Its also easier to move up and down than other 3D fighters.
However, if you're fan of combat sports... fighters tend to move left and right (towards and away). Unless they're evading or looking for an opening. If you watch UFC regularly I think you'd understand what I'm saying.
