I'm not sure people are making that assumption. OK, if the PS3 had a much cheaper price ($400 or less) and better games RIGHT NOW it would probably sell well, but, based on past console wars, a weak first step can cripple the system for its entire run (see GCN). I suspect many of us think that this weak start will begin that chain reaction which will result in bad press, loss of mindshare, and loss of games.
