Tough choice as I love both games almost equally. But If I must give an edge to one over the other, I'd choose Bloodborne.

As for the newbie, I'd tell him/her that if he/she is going to jump into a Souls game, don't do it if it's easy/casual gaming that you are after. Getting into a Souls game means you love challenge and hardships done in a quality oriented way (as only us hard-core gamers appreciate) One way to do it as I did it is chronologically. Start with Demon's Souls, then Dark Souls Remaster (it's available so why not) then Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin, Bloodborne and finally Dark Souls 3.
