But you need a controller to play games, don't you? Every other console also includes at least one controller. Even with the cheaper one (which will do shit in most other games besides the 2600-classics) you are at $229 plus shipping ($19 - $35 depending on the country)... that's already $248 - $264. Plus taxes / customs (f.e. 19% in Germany).
If you want the console with the modern controller (for games with more than one button) but without the classic controller you are at $248 plus shipping ($19 - $35 depending on the country)... that's already $267 - $283. Plus taxes / customs (f.e. 19% in Germany)
Germany Onyx + joystick = $229 + $25 shipping + $48.26 (19% taxes) = $302.26
Germany Onyx + modern controller = $248 + $25 shipping + $51.87 (19% taxes) = $324.87
And these are "early bird prices" if you pay a year in advance and take the whole risk getting nothing. Also no warranty on the device.
After that they want $279 for the joystick bundle + shipping + taxes.

I see where you are coming from there. However, I still think it's disingenuous to say that a PS4/Xbox One + SNES mini could be had for the same amount of money. Also, it indicates that PC supported USB controllers would be compatible, which would negate the need for most people to buy an additional controller.

Well, you get a new Xbox One (superb controller included) + a new Atari Flashback (105 games + two joysticks included) for less than $300, shipping included:

They are also offering refurbished Xbox Ones for less, but I don't think that comparison would be fair... although the Indigogo pledges for the new Atari VCS probably don't even include any warranty.
And the performance of the Bristol Ridge A10 will be much closer to a PS3 or Xbox 360 than to a PS4 or Xbox One... so perhaps comparing PS3 + Atari flashback or 360 + Atari flashbackwould make more sense.
