They're asking current gen consoles price for a retro/indie machine? This must be a joke.

But is there a large enough group out there that still yearns for the Atari nostalgia for $250-$300, I'd say no.

I'm not advocating buying this, but are you people all stating the "Collector's Edition" price as the price of the Atari VCS?  The Atari VCS Day One Collector’s Edition is $299 USD, The Atari VCS Onyx is priced at $199 USD

These are limited early bid offers, with the Onyx not including any controller. After that the Onyx will cost $250, only $50 less than current gen consoles but also with no controller included, and the Collector Edition will cost $350, which is $50 more than a PS4/XB1/Switch.

Now matter how you look at it, asking almost the same price as current gen consoles or even more for a mini console, while offering a lesser gaming experience, is definitely not reasonable.

Edit: And to make matters worse, Sony and MS can, and probably will, discount their base consoles permanently to $250 this year or in the next at the latest, which would make the Atari VCS consoles even more overpriced.
