People think they made MJ not white. Michelle was a SJW but that was her character. I don't believe the movie was pushing that message. 

I did not watch the movie because I gave up on spiderman on movies. Didnt know there was a problem with mary jane. So I went to search who was cast as MJ and... WTF????? really... WTF?????
