So Coleco Chameleon, Atari VCS (Atari Box), and now Intellivision. At this point we're just waiting for a Magnavox Odyssey revival. I kinda wish these classic, soulless cash grabs would stop.

The Coleco Chameleon very much was a soulless cash grab in that it never had anything to do with Coleco Industries or the ColecoVision.  When the Retro VGS crowd-funding campaign failed, they went to River West/Dormitus Brands (the trademark company who acquired the rights to the Coleco brand name) and slapped the name Coleco on the thing to see if nostalgia would be enough to push a 2nd attempted crowd funding campain (without even a working prototype).  Media outlets ran with the bs narrative "Coleco is Back!", which is what the trademark/brand company wants people to think despite them having no real ties to the original Coleco Industries.  I take solace in the fact that there is actual a very active and passionate Coleco homebrew scene that develops software (both ports of games from other retro systems, and original games) and hardware (Super Game Module add-on that increases RAM and sound quality, and some developers working on new systems to replace the old hardware which will eventually fail) for the Colecovision to this day.  Some of it is pretty amazing and provides a "what if" look into a Colecovision that might have competed against the NES in the third generation of video games if Coleco Industries had been able to ride out the North American Video Game Crash (and hadn't lost so much on their Adam computer).  The homebrew community is Coleco's real legacy, not the branding company that uses their name.
