The game is a masterwork of what the genre has been culminating since Heavy Rain. The weaving of plot threads into each other is brilliant. The sheer depth of the choice tree is insane. I cannot wait to take another couple of goes at this game.

The dialogue very occasionally suffers from being on the wrong side of blunt and hamfisted in it's message, but majority of it is done beautifully. Some of the reviewers are complaining about how the game makes no strides in making the obvious parallel to race.....well after playing, I can say the title gives it the appropriate amount of correlation for what is not offensive to anybody. It really makes me think some of these reviewers are the awful speed runner type who take no time to explore and take in the nuance. They def didn't do multiple playthroughs which a game like this demands to get the full story.
The game is actually blowing my mind on the very gripping questions it asks the player about their own moral compass. |
I just saw an article from Polygon that had similar criticisms as you've mentioned and it's not even their first time doing that. They also published an article criticizing Far Cry 5 for not bashing conservatives hard enough. It's pretty ridiculous, especially for a game like Detroit since it is a choose-your-adventure type of game. It is up to the player to decide how the protagonists act in the game.

The game is being pincered by one crowd that thinks the game doesn't go far enough in it's simile. Then another crowd who despise the notion of the topic in a game because they think the topic needs to die.
Which is exactly why i think the game has the perfect amount which was always going to be a controversial topic.
