Pretty sure, between the movies, merchandise, licensing agreements, and the soon to launch star wars land, they will have more than made returns on their purchase and gain bigger threshold of the marketplace/increased revenue/increased profits, which enforces their bottom line. They were 3-5th before 2010, and ever since TFA (started this journey) they have now had huge lead at first in total market share.

So yes, I do imagine Disney is laughing to the bank.

So what? If a project fails to meets it's goals it doesn't matter if it made a profit, it's still a disappointment.

The shareholders will not be overjoyed that they expected X amount in returns and got less then that.

They'll especially be disappointed when they compare it to the amount they made off of TFA, which completely covered the budget of TLJ.  Not so for TLJ and Ep 9.  And then you have merch sales down, because many pissed off fans aren't buying it anymore.

To add insult to injury, they also have the Marvel brand under their wing showing them how much they could be making from the films and merch.  I remember someone saying in the TLJ thread that $600M-$620M was just the new norm for big budget films, I guess cause that's all TLJ could muster.  Then, just a few months later BP blows by it and is at ~$698M.  And IW is going to hit ~$650M.
