There is one snag to the entire thing though, you can't watch it without seeing all some of the films before it. so a new goer who isn't that into the series will not understand a lot. Me and my friends came up with the 7 films you need to see to see this.

Iron Man, Avengers 1 and 2, Civil War, Dr Strange and Gaurdians 1 and maybe Thor 3. That's it really.

Yeah, I've been giving that some thought too. My list was Avengers, Civil War, Dr. Strange, both Guardians, and obviously Ragnarok. I guess Age of Ultron would be important because of Wanda and Vision, but eh, you can get a feeling for who they are in Civil War already. And Iron Man? Just because of Pepper, I guess? I mean of course, you'd need to watch Iron Man to fully grasp the character's motivations or whatever, but if you're going by that it could apply to every solo movie.

The correct (and OCD-driven) answer is to watch all eighteen films before seeing Infinity War. There are no shortcuts. Everything is important! Well, maybe not Ant-Man. 😉
