We live in times when people don't have jobs but it's jobs that have people and we end up having to do almost anything our bosses want lest we could lose our livelihood and it wears us down little by little until we burn out. |
I think it's a commentary on a lot of things. Modern capitalism, the little sexist microaggressions you endure every day, all that sort of thing. Retsuko is a naturally giving person, but "people" (if you will) take advantage of her giving nature constantly and she gets progressively beaten down by it. She's gotta have her outlets because nobody's interested in solving any of these problems. Nobody listens to her. Nobody cares. I relate.
