I have finished it and loved it , I agree it's far more open than it's predecessors , i would class it as a  semi open world, defined by me as being a game with large areas but one that limits you to set paths and areas in that world defined by the developers , to me a true God of war  open world game is one where beyond what paths the the developers have put in place I Am able to go anywhere  so long as it's physically possible to do so.

That's a bad idea. Hope they don't go with the full open world design. it'd ruin the tight feel. Anyway, an open world game is just that, an OPEN world, if you class it as anything else you can't say the ps2 GTA's aren't true open world because they use bridges and you unlock areas through progression or MGS5 isn't open world because us swap between two maps. An open world game is an open world game and a hub game is a hub game. GOW falls into the open world category. Semi open world games or hub world games would be bloodborne or Dragon age inquisition respectively.

Look it seems obvious that you won't change your mind no matter what I say about god of war not being open world, so I 'll leave you with a link to Cory Barlog talking about why he didn't make god of war open world,  https://wccftech.com/god-of-war-open-world-homework-serious/
