But... that's how many Nintendo fans started to play videogames. With just a console and maybe one game for each birthday/christmas. And that is if you're lucky. I only had like three games for my N64 that I had to replay over and over again. And two of those were Pokémon games xD

What I'm trying to say is... Labo does what other Nintendo software has done since they started making games. Make the kids playing their console, and eventually, they will come back for more. We, the ones who have been here since NES/SNES/N64, etc... we're not gonna be buying games forever. We will eventually play less, and less... until we're not even a factor for Nintendo. They need to keep their demographics growing and young... and Labo is just the next new thing that THEY THINK (because until christmas I'm not sure how well this thing will sell) will do that. Can they do it with Mario? Can they do it with DK? Kirby? All I know is when I was a kid I had far more toys than videogames. The difference was abysmal. And not only cheap toys, also expensive ones. So... is not that hard to understand why Labo seems such a great idea for Nintendo.

Mario isn't great for kids? Kirby? Yoshi? Pokémon? Mario Kart? When I was a kid I played Mario, Mega Man, Ninja Gaiden, Contra etc. Why aren't those kinda games good enough anymore? If kids are interested in video games, they will play video games? You don't need to "trick" them into liking it. "Oh, some of the most beloved franchises in history wont convince them? Hmmmm...how about cardboard?"

The reason why Pixar movies are so popular is because it appeals to every age group. Same with Mario and Zelda. If you make games for children, then you have exactly that. A game that only appeals to children. Its a very limited group of people.

Nintendo has children covered. 90% of their games are great for children. They are also great for any age group. If they really want to expand, then start with the people who like more mature games. They are the 12 and over. Instead of trying to get the 6 or younger. You already have them.

I may have explained myself wrong... or maybe you didn't understand me properly xD

I never said Mario, Kirby or DK are not great for kids. I think they are probably the best quality games in the market for them. What I wanted to say is that... you can use videogames to hook kids into Nintendo. Or... you can use something else. Like, something that kids (especially little kids) are more familiar with and parents tend to buy more: Toys. Labo is essentially a toy. I bet many parents would rather buy their children Labo than the next Mario game, even if Mario is cheaper and more known. There's still a lot of prejudices around videogames. So... it kida makes sense for Nintendo to try to create their own toys and merge them with their consoles.
