I disagree with most of that.

A world map that's too good or convenient will only encourage you to lean on it more and playing the game thru a menu screen versus exploring naturally.

I think that you're just nitpicking the narrative and dialog. The game is definitely a masterpiece but I wouldn't call it the best game of the gen or anything.

I'm annoyed that because of quest bug in "The realm of Fire" that I can't go into these huge optional areas. Also, backtracking is more annoying to me because they'll lock you out of area so you can't go back for a long time. Normally, backtracking isn't something that normally bothers me.

This is only an issue as to how you approach the content. It happened to me but only got locked out for less than a half hour I didn't really mind however it may not happen to everyone. Also, what exactly is the glitch you experienced? Have you tried going back to the track to the summit and the end of the bridge and re reading the symbols there? Oh and totally agreed on the map, couldn't have said it better or more concise.

I got locked out of the beginning parts and still not able to go back there. I missed some stuff.

The quest is "Realm of Fire". You're supposed to find 4 ciphers from certain chests so Atreus learns a new language then you're able to travel to Muspelheim and Niflheim.

The glitch is basically when you get a new cipher, it doesn't count towards the quest. So far, I've  found 5 or 6 ciphers but only 3 are counted but I need 4 to complete the quest. The problem is that there's a finite number of ciphers in certain places. I have to progress to new areas just to find more ciphers. If those don't count towards the quest then I'm screwed. I might just play something else  til it's patched if the next cipher doesn't count.
